Most Americans think identity theft is all about credit.

Most Americans think identity theft is all about credit. But credit theft is a mere thirty percent of all ID fraud. Most monitoring solutions that strictly use credit bureaus to search for fraudulent activity are actually alerting their customers to less than one third of the activity of identity fraud. That’s a huge gap in supposed “protection.” False identities are being procured for a growing number of reasons. Imagine finding out that:

  • A sex offender has used your identity to acquire housing utilities
  • An illegal alien charged an expensive operation using your personal information
  • A thief has filed your taxes and received your sizable return
  • An ex-con has opened five bank accounts in various cities using your information
  • Someone has defaulted on a mortgage in your name
  • You have a warrant out for your arrest for a crime committed using your identification

These and hundreds of other ID theft circumstances fall below the radar of most ID theft “protection” services. Is there any point in choosing a solution that just doesn’t work?
